When Michelle escapes the bunker and finds a new threat waiting, this is partially an extension of the abuse metaphor. For victims of domestic abuse, just getting out of the house doesn’t immediately solve all their problems. For the metaphor to stay sound, 10 Cloverfield Lane needs to acknowledge that finding the courage to leave an abuser doesn’t guarantee a happily-ever-after. For a moment, when Michelle first removes her makeshift gas mask and learns that Howard was wrong about the poisonous air, it seems like the movie might end on a note of relief, and the promise that her problems are over. But that would be facile, and would also mean that Michelle had been in a standard slasher movie, where arbitrarily bad things happen to random people, and nothing much is learned. And that wouldn’t be in keeping with the movie’s actual arc, which is all about the way Michelle comes to terms with her abuse.

Michelle’s problems didn’t start with Howard, and they don’t end with him. They aren’t imaginary, like the toxic threat, and they aren’t just part of some vague general calamity. They’re specific and personal, and they require a specific, personal catharsis. And that’s the primary reason the big, direct confrontation is necessary in the final act.Michelle’s fight against the aliens completes an arc that began in the film’s opening moments, when she abandons her fiancé after a fight. As she tells Emmett later, she’s had experience with abusers. Her father was one, and her childhood fear and helplessness from dealing with him destroyed her courage. She responds to pressure by buckling and running. It’s unclear whether something significant happened with her fiancé that tapped into her memories of abuse, but for the purpose of the larger story, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that she sees her habit of running as a problem, one she’s ashamed of. That’s the problem that needs to be resolved, more than the problem of Howard’s concrete cage or the possibly imaginary apocalypse.

But just escaping Howard doesn’t solve the problem, because Michelle hasn’t really made a choice: She’s been driven by unavoidable circumstances. Her first actual choice, and the resolution of her arc, comes in the film’s final shot, when she decides to drive to Houston, to fight the alien invasion, rather than to Baton Rouge, to hole up in the "safe zone." That’s a definitive ending. But it’s meaningless if she hasn’t already faced off against the aliens, at least enough to understand the stakes, and commit to her decision in a meaningful way. If her only fights have been the ones against Howard that she didn’t choose for herself, there’s no reason to believe she won’t just run again, as soon as she sees how frightening the alien threat is.

Instead, by the end, she’s already faced two aliens, so she knows exactly what she’s getting into by heading to Houston. And it’s the first time her fighting back becomes really meaningful. In the bunker, fleeing initially wasn’t an option, then was the only option. Outside the bunker, the aliens don’t give her a choice any more than Howard did. But both experiences leave her wanting to fight back—and to finally stand up for someone besides herself, like Emmett did, and her brother Colin before him. And even more so, her experiences with both Howard and the aliens have taught her that she has the necessary skills to fight.

Ну не знаю насчет сюжета и всего остального, но визуально фильм — охуенен.
Шарлиз Терон, ну нельзя быть НАСТОЛЬКО прекрасной, это что вообще было!
ШипнутоTM вот просто все, какой там фемслэш можно написать с любой комбинацией героинь, ааааа.
И кроссоверы, да.

мне пока все нравится. я в общем-то сюжет знаю из спойлеров, и достаточно спокойно к нему отношусь, так что больше интересовали конкретные реплики/действия.

1) судя по всему, пьесу нужно ВИДЕТЬ. там везде магия, спецэффекты и т.п.
может, запишут когда-нибудь?

2) скорпиал из риал. с первой встречи, на протяжении всей пьесы, такая милота!
Скорпиус - т.н. nerd, которого гнобят из-за слуха про то, что он - сын Волдеморта, Альбус - всеобщее разочарование, совсем не похожий на знаменитого отца. эти двое прямо вот созданы друг для друга, и им вместе хорошо. они не любят квиддич, они не ходят в Хогсмит, у них нет друзей помимо друг друга. И их это устраивает. Милашки.

ALBUS: Hi. Is this compartment . . .
SCORPIUS: It’s free. It’s just me.
ALBUS: Great. So we might just — come in — for a bit — if that’s okay?
SCORPIUS: That’s okay. Hi.
ALBUS: Albus. Al. I’m — my name is Albus . . .
SCORPIUS: Hi Scorpius. I mean, I’m Scorpius. You’re Albus. I’m Scorpius. And you must be . . .

SCORPIUS: I’ve also got some Shock-o-Choc, Pepper Imps, and some Jelly Slugs. Mum’s idea — she says (sings), “Sweets, they always help you make friends.” (He realizes that singing was a mistake.) Stupid idea, probably.

ALBUS: Up. UP. UP.
His broom doesn’t move. Not even a millimeter. He stares at it with disbelieving desperation. There’s giggling from the rest of the class.
POLLY CHAPMAN: Oh Merlin’s beard, how humiliating! He really isn’t like his father at all, is he?
KARL JENKINS: Albus Potter, the Slytherin Squib.

SCORPIUS/HARRY: My point is, there’s a reason we’re friends, Albus — a reason we found each other, you know? And whatever this — adventure — is about . . .
Then he spots a book on the shelf that makes him frown.
Have you seen the books on these shelves? There are some serious books here. Banned books. Cursed books.
ALBUS/RON: How to distract Scorpius from difficult emotional issues. Take him to a library.



3) старшее поколение. пока — прекрасно.
Рона могли бы и поумнее прописать, все-таки в книге он был лучше, чем в фильме — а тут больше на киношного Рона похож. И он прям клоун-клоун местами.
Но очевидно, что он очень-очень любит свою семью и друзей. А они — его. И это подкупает.
Гарри и Джинни просто мимими. Джинни офигенна.
Гермиона — хороша. У нее прорезался сарказм, сухое чувство юмора, и немного здравого смысла. Она не прежняя идеалистка, но все еще борется за то, что считает верным.
Драко Очень-очень хороший отец! Борется со слухами о Скорпиусе вплоть до преследования Гарри с Гермионой с просьбой выпустить официальное заявление от Министерства Магии.

HARRY: Parked all right, then?
RON: I did. Hermione didn’t believe I could pass a Muggle driving test, did you? She thought I’d have to Confund the examiner.
HERMIONE: I thought nothing of the kind, I have complete faith in you.
ROSE: And I have complete faith he did Confund the examiner.
RON: Oi!

HERMIONE: What can I say? My parents were dentists, I was bound to rebel at some point. Forty is leaving it a little late, but . . .

...

HARRY: It went pretty badly wrong from there. I said some things, Ginny . . .
GINNY: I heard.
HARRY: And you’re still talking to me?
GINNY: Because I know that when the time is right you’ll say sorry. That you didn’t mean it. That what you said concealed . . . other things. You can be honest with him, Harry . . . That’s all he needs.
HARRY: I just wish he was more like James or Lily.
GINNY (dry): Yeah, maybe don’t be that honest.
HARRY: No, I wouldn’t change a thing about him . . . but I can understand them, and . . .
GINNY: Albus is different and isn’t that a good thing. And he can tell, you know, when you’re putting on your Harry Potter front. He wants to see the real you.

HARRY: “The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.”
GINNY looks at him, surprised.
Dumbledore.
GINNY: A strange thing to say to a child.
HARRY: Not when you believe that child will have to die to save the world

...

GINNY: You talk a lot of rubbish.
RON: I consider it my speciality. That and my range of Skiving Snackboxes. And my love for all of you.
Even Skinny Ginny.
GINNY: If you don’t behave, Ronald Weasley, I will tell Mum.

HERMIONE: I mean it, Harry, I will not be Cornelius Fudge on this one. I will not stick my head in the sand.
And I don’t care how unpopular that makes me with Draco Malfoy.
RON: You never really were one for popularity, were you?
HERMIONE shoots RON a withering look as she aims to hit him but RON jumps out of the way.
Missed.
GINNY hits RON. RON winces.
Hit. A very solid hit.

DRACO: If anything happens to Scorpius . . .
GINNY steps in between DRACO and HARRY.
GINNY: Don’t throw around threats, Draco, please don’t do that.
DRACO (roar): My son is missing!
GINNY (an equal roar): So is mine!
He meets her look. There’s real emotion in this room.
DRACO (lip curling, every inch his father): If you need gold . . . Everything the Malfoys have . . . He’s my sole heir . . . He’s my — only family.


4) Гарри и Альбус
Все не так страшно, как казалось. Гарри не разочарован в сыне, он просто не может найти к нему подход. Он не понимает, что между ними двумя не так, он пытается, но каждая попытка встречается в штыки.
Нашумевшая сцена с одеялком оказалась тоже немного другой. Всю ее не буду постить сюда, но сцена прямо очень грустная - Гарри в очередной раз пытается сделать шаг навстречу, пусть это и неловкий и неправильный шаг. Он действительно отдает Альбусу то, что для него очень ценно — единственную вещь, оставшуюся от его матери. Альбус огрызается, хамит, давит на очень больные места (хэллоу последствия детского абьюза), и оба они срываются. Очень печальная сцена.
Но совсем не ООС.

HARRY: Al —
ALBUS: My name is Albus, not Al.
HARRY: Are the other kids being unkind? Is that it? Maybe if you tried making a few more friends . . .
without Hermione and Ron I wouldn’t have survived Hogwarts, I wouldn’t have survived at all.
ALBUS: But I don’t need a Ron and Hermione. I’ve — I’ve got a friend, Scorpius, and I know you don’t
like him but he’s all I need.
HARRY: Look, as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters to me.

HARRY: Al—Albus, I’ve been exchanging owls with Professor McGonagall — she says you’re isolating yourself — you’re uncooperative in lessons — you’re surly — you’re —
ALBUS: So what would you like me to do? Magic myself popular? Conjure myself into a new House? Transfigure myself into a better student? Just cast a spell, Dad, and change me into what you want me to be, okay? It’ll work better for both of us. Got to go. Train to catch. Friend to find.

Это был тяжелый год... Стоп, кажется, так я писала и в прошлом июле Но в общем, да, год был тяжелый, но я его пережила! Более того, могу с уверенностью сказать, что жизнь начала поворачиваться ко мне лицом вместо задницы

У меня теперь есть прекрасная работа, которая оставляет бездну времени на то, чтобы что-то делать. В этом году я хочу вплотную заняться фотографией, вышивкой и начать путешествовать.

Новый пост прочитанных книг (да, я снова и снова пытаюсь его вести )

0. «Другая жизнь» Илья Павлов
Прочитала давно, еще в начале лета, но все равно хочу о ней рассказать. Это фэнтези про отряд наемников (первая половина) и экономическо-политические реформы (вторая половина), как бы странно ни звучало. Главный герой присоединяется к отряду наемников в поисках бандитов, вырезавших близких ему людей. По виду герой — книжник и умник, но чем дальше, тем больше в нем странностей и сюрпризов.
Почему понравилось — очень-очень напомнило мои любимые книги Элеоноры Раткевич. Прям вот то же самое настроение.

1. «Моя сестра живет на каминной полке» Аннабель Питчер (прослушано)
По-моему, отлично стилизовано под мысли 10летнего мальчика. Книга грустная, но в то же время очень светлая. Там все — и расизм, и первая любовь, и неумение отпускать погибших, и замечательный рыжий котик (как же я плакала в конце).

2-6. Серия «Чужак» Игорь Дравин
Попаданец в фэнтези-мир с кучей плюшек, которые, правда, нужно заслужить потом и кровью. Ну... было интересно поначалу, но это настолько мужская книга, что под конец подташнивало. Очень печально отношение к женским персонажам. Бросила на пятой чатси.

7. «Злое счастье» Людмила Астахова
Тоже попаданка. Любовный роман с приключениями. Вот вроде бы и неплохо написано, и главные герои такие приятные — но не зацепило совсем, оставило равнодушной. Дочитывала для галочки.

8. «О всех созданиях – больших и малых» Джеймс Хэрриот
В рекомендациях не нуждается)) Рада, что наконец добралась до него.
